Round Matanuku ::
3-4 hrs: intermediate - difficult (high-tide timing)

Leave from Urunalaca Beach Bure. Go over shallow shoals, close to the great barrier reef marine culture. Tuck by sea birds, and mangroves stalls, and inlets, and bays.

SURFING

World class wicked breaks close to Ravitaki village in the Yauravu Passage. 5 minute boat ride and you are off.

 

Monday - Saturday only:
Babaceva Break - Good at mid & high tide.
Seniceva Break - Good at high tide only.

 

SNORKELING

Our village recently reserved part of our coastal waters as a National Marine Demarcated Area (MDA), because we want to protect our fragile reef life. The MDA consists of an IDA -- [Inside Demarcated Area] the area reef to the beach -- & an ODA -- [Outside Demarcated Area] the area outside of the world-famous Astrolab reef barrier.

Our calm bays are perfect for beginners just getting use to snorkel equipment, and young kids. Ideal placid swimming at low and high tide.

 

Explore a nearby 1964 Japanese ship wreak off our coast. At low tide, the broken hull rests 7-8 feet under the surface.

We can arrange for you to scuba dive as well.

 

BAKA (& COCONUT) TREE CLIMBING

Scale giant Baka Trees with massive roots (40 feet wide) lifting into the sky. The trees are cathedral-like. You can't even see the trunk! The biggest tree rises out of our sacred ancestoral grounds that are reserved in a total natural state out of respect to their spirits. Details on Sacred Grounds >>>

 

We have the best tasting coconuts around - wet, dry, and Bu. Reward your climb with a refreshing, delicious snack.

 

GUIDED HIKES & TREKKING

Outrageous, undisturbed natural scenery and wildlife along our walking paths, and in the thick native forest. Routes available for strenous, or easy day trips. Which ever adventure you are up to.

 

We offer hiking and jungle trekking by streams, waterfalls, rare high land mangrove forests, farms, and over bridges on Kadavu too.

Wild Baka Tree ::
2-3 hrs: intermediate - difficult

Pass thru 30+ meter high trees with humongous thick roots that rise like spires of a catherdral. Panoramic views on hilltop overlooks entire southern side of Kadavu and pristine coral reef waters. Go by wonderful beach for a refreshing swim on sandy soft coral reef beach. Loop trip.

 

Valley of Wild Fern ::
2 hrs: intermediate

Go thru massive fern area. Dense mangrove forest. See plants used to make traditional Fijian mats. Try to catch land crabs.

 

Coast -to- Coast ::
1 hr: easy (low-tide timing)

Walk north thru the heart of the island's coconut grooves. Come to lovely beach for a swim and snorkel. At low tide only, walk back on the beach which extends the whole length of the island.

 

PIG HUNTING

Join us for an all day trek in the high mountain jungle in search of tasty wild pigs. Most of the time we get at least one catch!

 

BIRD WATCHING & WATERFALLS

Take a guided tour to spot and hear our endemic endangered birds. Some species are found no where else on earth. Usual citings include: The Red Breasted Musk Parrot Kaka (Prosopeia Tabuensis Splendens), Whistling Doves, Fantail, Visilou, Owls, Raptors. 45 minute hike to waterfall with rejuvenating small swimming pool.

TRADITIONAL FIJIAN FISHING

Day or Night. Spearfishing. Hand line. Coconut leave traps (wavirau). Our island is famous in Fiji for our delicious shellfish. Hand catching hermit, land (tumba) & sweet mud crabs. Lobster. Fresh water prawns. Pelagic and reef fish.
